Craig and Maree raise shorthorn beef and lamb exclusively for Hipgroup and the Good Grocer.
Craig’s great grandfather, Kenneth, commenced farming at Katikati in 1878 and his descendants have been farming much of the same land ever since. Craig’s father, Ken, has lived in Katikati his whole life and still helps out on the farm.
The Katikati property backs on to the Angatete River, which is fed its beautiful pristine water by the Kaimai Ranges. This mineral rich water ensures perfectly lush pastures for which the cattle to graze upon.
Native trees have been planted in and around the pastures, providing important year-round shelter from the New Zealand elements.
Shorthorn is one of the oldest British breeds and has been farmed in Katikati since 1875. The breed first arrived in New Zealand more than 200 years ago and was the first breed to hit our shores. Shorthorn have a terrific temperament and unlike other breeds, can be relatively easy to handle.
Craig and Maree also farm approximately 700 ewes in order to supply us with fresh lamb on a regular basis.
